Who We Are
Biographies of Gary L. Dick CRMC (Publisher of Topeka Today!) and Sherrie Dick (Editor/Publisher of Topeka Today!):
Gary is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a graduate of the American Management Academy. From childhood-on he'd always dreamed of becoming a radio announcer - and so began his career in radio in 1958. He spent the next ten years as an on-air announcer (D.J.) and sales person. In 1968, along with a group of investors, Gary was instrumental in putting KEYN FM on the air, in Wichita, and was General Manager and part owner. Following the sale of KEYN, Gary became General Manager of WREN AM in Topeka. In 1985, Gary returned to Wichita to help sign-on another FM station, where he was Vice President and General Manager.
Gary also spent several years as an advertising consultant, working with businesses in Oregon, Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota.
Gary and Sherrie started Topeka Today! in October of 1995 - with the goal of giving local businesses an inexpensive way to target-market to Topeka homeowners and business owners and managers through story-form advertising.
Gary’s “hobby-turned-business” is creating fused dichroic glass jewelry. His pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings are available at Glass Expressions and The Hub in Topeka, KS; Phoenix Gallery in Lawrence, KS; Sha C’s in Olathe, KS; Lucinda’s in Wichita, KS; Trudy’s Trowbridge Classics in Council Grove, KS and The Jewelry Box in Eureka Springs, AR.
Sherrie also attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney (where she and Gary met). She has held a life-long love-affair with the Arts and Writing. She was a back-drop artist and Continuity Director for a local TV station in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 19. Later, after moving to Wichita, KS, she worked for two prominent Advertising Agencies, and was Continuity Director for a local radio station for five years. She and Gary began a real estate publication in Wichita, and both worked in sales and layout. Sherrie has been Editor/Publisher of Topeka Today! since its inception in 1995.
Sherrie is a watercolor artist and a member of the Kansas Watercolor Society. Her paintings may be found in Topeka at the Arts Collection & Custom Framing in Fleming Place. Sherrie also designs pendants and earrings of wire-wrapped stones as well as a variety of multi-media (beaded and embossed metal) pieces. Her jewelry is available at The Hub and Prairie Trading Company in Topeka, KS; Lucinda’s in Wichita, KS; Phoenix Gallery in Lawrence, KS; Sha C’s in Olathe, KS; Trudy’s Trowbridge Classics in Council Grove, KS and The Jewelry Box in Eureka Springs, AR.
Gary and Sherrie are members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka. They are also members of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, and Sherrie is a member of Sales and Marketing Executives (SME) of Topeka.
